The rewards and frustrations of home winemaking

“Fiesta Island” Cabernet Sauvignon 1 1/2 Year Tasting

It seems to be time to catch up on wines I haven’t visited for a while. Tonight I opened our Lambert Bridge Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, which I bottled as 83% cab sauv and 17% of a Lambert Bridge Vineyard merlot that I fermented as a small batch. In lieu of decanting, I aerated with Vinturi into Spiegelau bordeaux glasses. The nose is a little weak, full of brambles and hint of menthol and melon rind with weak black fruits. But it is a very clear, beautiful ruby-garnet in color with clear rim. Very fresh and bright on the tongue, with zingy flavors of cherry, currant, and plum with good oak on long finish. This wine is coming along nicely!
