{"id":1783,"date":"2010-10-06T14:13:58","date_gmt":"2010-10-06T22:13:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wineintheshower.com\/?p=1783"},"modified":"2010-10-06T14:13:58","modified_gmt":"2010-10-06T22:13:58","slug":"the-new-flextank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/docker.vsl:8080\/index.php\/2010\/10\/06\/the-new-flextank\/","title":{"rendered":"The New Flextank"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-1784\" href=\"\/index.php\/2010\/10\/06\/the-new-flextank\/the-new-flextank\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1784 aligncenter\" style=\"margin-top: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\" title=\"The new flextank\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/The-new-flextank-375x500.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"http:\/\/docker.vsl:8080\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/The-new-flextank-375x500.jpg 375w, http:\/\/docker.vsl:8080\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/The-new-flextank-601x800.jpg 601w, http:\/\/docker.vsl:8080\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/The-new-flextank.jpg 1148w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/a>The new 50 gallon <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flextankusa.com\/dexter-maturation-products-50.php\">Flextank<\/a> finally arrived.\u00a0 I say finally because I ordered it the first week of September, and was told &#8220;it should be there next week&#8221; every time I called to check on it.\u00a0 Now that it has finally arrived, we were a little concerned that something is wrong with it.\u00a0 When Paul first took it out of the box after delivery, it was pretty warped:<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-1786\" href=\"\/index.php\/2010\/10\/06\/the-new-flextank\/img_20101005_150859\/\"><\/a><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-1787\" href=\"\/index.php\/2010\/10\/06\/the-new-flextank\/img_20101005_150859-2\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1787\" title=\"Flexed Flextank\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/IMG_20101005_1508591-428x500.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"290\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"http:\/\/docker.vsl:8080\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/IMG_20101005_1508591-428x500.jpg 428w, http:\/\/docker.vsl:8080\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/IMG_20101005_1508591-685x800.jpg 685w, http:\/\/docker.vsl:8080\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/IMG_20101005_1508591.jpg 1644w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 290px) 100vw, 290px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nIt was difficult to get a photo to do justice to the warpage, but it was kind of pushed in on the sides and not straight, more like an hourglass, and wobbled on the floor.\u00a0 Since there is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flextankusa.com\/fs.php\">floating skin<\/a> that keeps the wine from contact with the air inside, if the tank is not round, the wine risks contact with the air.<\/p>\n<p>I called them to see if it is supposed to look like this, and they said it should fill out into a better cylinder once filled with water or wine.\u00a0 If it did not, or if it was more damaged, they would replace it for us.\u00a0 I checked in with another fellow winemaker that has several flextanks to get his experience with a new flextank, and he said his was also a bit wobbly at first, but was OK once it was filled with the water.\u00a0 Our flextank already looked more cylindrical than yesterday, too.<\/p>\n<p>Our <a href=\"\/index.php\/2010\/09\/13\/pressing-the-2010-syrah\/\">syrah<\/a> should be almost done with <a href=\"\/index.php\/winemaking-definitions\/malolactic-fermentation-mlf-malo\/\">malo<\/a>, so we want to pump it off of the finer lees and into the flextank for oaking and bulk aging.
